CATCHING FIRE

Catching fire
Written by: Suzanne Collins
390 pages
Blog by: Will Stretch
In this book Katniss is relieved to be alive after winning the 74th annual Hunger Games with her so called "boyfriend" Peta. Now they are forced to go back in to the 75th annual Hunger Games after finding out the heart breaking news that two winning victors from each district must go back and fight for their lives again.
Katniss leaves behind her widowed mother, frail sister prim, and long time friend and companion Gale. They are all devastated and cannot bare the thought of Katniss leaving them again. As Katniss enters the biggest challenge of her life, she is once again at the mercy of the capitol and the evil president snow.
I think Collins did a great job describing the characters and the relationships between them. She made it feel as though you were in the games with the characters, you could feel when they where scared, relieved, happy, and many more extreme emotions.
She did a terrific job describing the settings like how their district was dingy and poor and how when they where getting ready they looked fantastic.  She did an amazing job leading up to the whole clock idea and explained how there where different unthinkable events happening in different areas of the clock depending on what time of the day it was. Katniss discovered this complicated concept during the games, which gave her an incredible advantage. I also like how Katniss made friends with the tributes that helped her through the games and beyond. I think this was a great book purchase for the $12 I paid for it (or more like what my parents paid for it). The book gave me many hours of entertainment and kept me on the edge of my seat.
